Why?

Why no posts lately?  All my pictures are on my phone.

Actually the real reason for this posts is that, "Why?" is Ike's favorite new word.
He's figured out (thanks to modeling by his big sister, no doubt) that "Why?" is the thing to say when someone tells you to do something you don't want to do. He doesn't have a complete grasp of the word, but he knows it prolongs the discussion and sometimes delays the non-preferred activity.

"You can't have a big boy bar for breakfast."
"Why?"

"You have to put on your jammies."
"Why?"

"It is sister's turn with the ball."
"Why?"

"Let's get in the car."
"Why?"

"You can't eat that cheese."
"Why?"
"Because it has milk in it."
"Why?"

"Popsicles stay in the kitchen."
"Why?"

"Please stop turning the light on and off."
"Why?"

Amazingly our explanations are often enough to make him comply.

Isaac's language acquisition seems to come in bursts.  I'm not sure if that's because I don't have time to note every new word, sentence, etc. or if it is because it really is.  He has had another giant leap and knows most of the colors most of the time, can ask for complex things, and is starting to share ideas and comment on things around him.

Isla is adorable as ever.  I need to follow her around with a tape recorder.  Last weekend we went to Big Bear and suddenly, during a beach trip, she jumped up from her sand castle construction and announced, "It's time to bask!" and lay down on a towel.  Too funny!
