Sweet Isaac turned 7 months old on the 15th.
Time is flying by!
Here's a little peak into his world.
- Eating: Solid foods are Isaac's FAVORITE! He loves his newest food - sweet potatoes (I ended up holding off on apricots) - and gets so excited when we put him in his high chair. After just a few days we are already able to thicken his food.
- Drinking: Isaac eats about 24 ounces of Elecare everyday. Yum! He loves it and all my angst about giving up breastfeeding is in the past. The only downer is the smell. It just stinks. Isla says it smells like "yucky macaroni." Weirdly enough it bothers me less and less and I now associate the smell of rotten cauliflowers fondly with my darling boy.
- Babbling: Isaac loves to talk to us. His favorite babble is "Dadadada!" but he has lots of other things to say too. He's watching our mouths a lot when we speak and likes to engage in conversational exchanges.
- Books: Ike recently discovered a love of books. Unfortunately a majority of his reading happens when he is falling asleep before bed, but he also sits with us when Isla and I read. He likes grabbing pages, mouthing and looking at the pictures. Sometimes he slowly leans down to look a picture and falls right over.
- Motor: Isaac is sitting like a champ and is easily able to stabilize himself, often just by shifting his weight. There is no indication that he will be crawling anytime soon, which is fine by us. We love the stationary seated baby phase! He is really interested in cause and affect and loves playing with his "silly town" toy on loan from his Godparents, his stander and any other toy that he can manipulate. He loves banging on his light up toy drum from his cousin Hunter, tries to stack stacking rings and thinks balls are the best. Isaac prefers his left hand, which was a little concerning because babies shouldn't show any preference yet and early preference can be an early sign of CP. (Isaac is at higher risk for CP because of the many complications during his last trimester.) His physical therapist for his torticollis looked him over and said that she saw no other red flags and that babies with torticollis sometimes show hand preference because they don't look at the hand their head turns away from. At Isaac's age when a baby doesn't see his hand he is less likely to use it. We've doubled our efforts to stretch Ike's neck and he seems to be using his right hand more often.
- Sister Love: Isla continues to be the star of Isaac's small show. He loves her and she is really starting to enjoy the attention and responsibility that comes with being a big sister. We went to the Flower Fields with Isla's cousins a few weeks ago and her oldest cousin, Malia, was too shy to hold Isaac for a picture. Isla realized what we were talking about and volunteered. She did a great job! Today we read, "Counting Kisses" to Isaac and took turns giving him all the kisses. He was exhausted and fussy until she started kissing his toes and then he just laughed and grinned from ear to ear.
- Growth: Isaac's height is 26.5 inches (about the 30th percentile) and his weight (according to our pretty inaccurate scale at home is 16.4 lbs (a little over the 10th percentile). A few weeks ago he was 15 lbs 12 oz at the GI Dr. (also 10% for that age).
- Clothes: Isaac is in size 2 diapers and most of his clothes are 6 months, with a few 3 month and a few 9 month in the mix.
- GI: Isaac's tummy is completely healed. He still has his scar and you can feel the sutures under his skin (they will dissolve with time). He is still spitting up quite a bit, but it doesn't seem to bother him and he is gaining weight and no longer having coughing fits, so for now, this is not a problem.
- Sleep: Isaac is the opposite of Isla when it comes to sleep. He cries to be put to bed by 7:15 and wakes up between 5:30 and 6:30 every day. This morning he woke up for the day at 4:23. It was quite a treat.

Oh my GOSH, he's just TOO CUTE!!! I love how he looks so much like Isla, yet at the same time he's obviously his own little person (and a boy, also obviously!) That busy town toy looks really fun, I haven't seen that one before! And I think the water table in your pictures is the one I picked out today on Amazon as wanting to buy! Any recommendations? :)
I LOVE your posts and as I read through them it sounds like some of the things that you have noticed with motor skills reminds me of some of the recommendations I have been given for Papa. Like when you talk about him not having much use for his right hand because he doesn't see it. They said that Papa needs to be stimulated on the right side more which means reaching to the right even if it is with the left hand. Or watching TV by having to look over to his right. They say this will stimulate the brain on that side to start connecting again with his body. I love the photos they are so cute! Keep um coming.
We love you, Isaac!!! Happy 7 month birthday :)
