Helmet Head

Isaac's DOC band treatment is going really well.
He has almost outgrown his current helmet, but will most likely have one more, unless there is an unexpected and dramatic change in measurements in the next week.

At Isaac's 1st appointment his measurements were 4 standard deviations off from normal and now they are a little over 2.5.  The goal is to get to 2 or less.
His facial asymmetry measurement was 14 at his 1st appointment and is currently 9.  I'm not sure what this is exactly, but most people are less than 2, so he has a ways to go.  All of this is relevant because it can make sports and bike helmets and glasses not fit and can cause jaw problems.

Isaac's torticollis is improving, but he is still pretty tight on the left side of his neck and his shoulder.  His PT, Wendy, is awesome and has given us lots of suggestions, on top of the exercises, for loosening his muscles.

His pictures have never really shown the significance of his plagiocephally, partly because his head is tilted, and partly because the flattest part of Ike's head is the lower left side and it looks like a shadow in most photos.  At the very least, you can see the improvement in his torticollis.  (When we are done with everything we'll get to take his head mold home, so anyone who is interested can see how far he has come.)
The pictures on the left were taken in February, pre-treatment, and the photos on the right were taken last week.  He has grown so much hair and looks like such a big boy compared to his 1st photo study!

PS - On our way home from his weekly helmet appointment (physical therapy and fitting) we pass an insurance billboard that says, "Love things that require helmets?"  I do!

PPS - Isaac is a head banger!  He has discovered that he can make cool noises by wacking his paci on his helmet.  He also likes to run his paci across the volume markers on his bottle - instant rain stick!

You get to keep the head mold? Is it awful that I think that is SO COOL? :) He looks like such a little man in those photos, I just love seeing his pictures!
