Fun at the Fair!!!

On Friday we went to the Del Mar Fair! It was a blast!
We planned to go to Hank and Andrea's, but poor little Spencer and Seth were sick and my OB recommended we stay away.
The Fair was the perfect place to go. It was busy, but we never had to wait in line for the bathroom (Ali's litmus test for "too crowded"). We enjoyed some fried zucchini and had fun looking at (and smelling) all the odd fair foods (fried White Castle!?!?). We discovered all sorts of fun exhibits and had fun watching some of the rides. I was very disappointed with the meager home economics 4-H competitions (only ONE category for canning, and it included honey!), but we saw some interesting things...the weirdest was the adult collections competition (collections of prescription pens, penguins, Sunshine Bear memorabilia, and supposedly dryer lint, although we never found it). Another odd exhibit was the high school yearbook competition; Coronado High did not enter.

Andrew's favorite activity was the Turkey Stampede - A rip roarin' turkey race (see photos).

Ali's favorite was the Jr. Livestock Auction. The smell of alfalfa, the caller, all the dusty white and felt green uniforms, and the occasional dejected 4-Her in an empty pen brought back all kinds of 4-H memories.
