Isaac had surgery today at 3:15. We got a report at 3:40pm that he did in fact have malrotation and the surgeon was going ahead with the Ladd procedure to correct the malrotation. He finished surgery around 4:50pm and we met with the surgeon while Isaac was in the PACU.
Dr. F said that the surgery went well and Isaac tolerated anesthesia well. His intestines were all healthy, although his lymph nodes were enlarged, which is an indicator that he may have been having intermittent volvulus, making this procedure timely and quite possibly life saving. His malrotation was very "classic" but for the fact that some of the Ladd's Bands (the connective tissue that holds the bowel in place and is in the wrong place in a person with malrotation) were missing, making the surgery a little easier.
Apparently Isaac came out of the OR fighting and earned himself some arm bands preventing him from taking out his IV, NG tube, and all the other leads. He is now resting in his posh little hot air balloon themed room. Interestingly, we can see our old hospital from his room.
