I forgot to take down the pregnancy ticker on the side...
Today is Isaac's due date! ...& lucky us, we've already had him in our lives for two weeks and a day!
Isaac has had a busy 1st week home - 4 Dr.'s appointments and a home visit from a nurse from the Children's hospital. He has already gained more than a pound! On Friday he weighed 7 lbs 4 oz.
He was circumcised on Thursday - Mazel Tov Isaac! It was an opportunity to see a whole new side to our Pedi. He had lots of circumcision jokes to share. It was also a little traumatic. Isla and I waited in the lobby during the actual event. Isaac also has a clogged tear duct and a crusty eye, so we got some drops for him.
Isaac is much more alert and today has had longer waking periods. He is also a little more fussy and makes his demands known. This is great! He seems a little more tuned into his environment.
We've gone on lots of outings and he went to his cousin, Hunter's, 1st Birthday party and got to meet lots of family. Today his Grauntie Didi came to visit too!
Tomorrow will be Isaac's first holiday!
Isla is adjusting to being a big sister like a champ. She is so gentle to Isaac and says sweet things to him and gently touches his head and feet, but still occasionally takes her feelings out on us - directly disobeying and putting toys in my water and pulling my hair were the two events today. Part of the problem is that Andrew and I are so tired that we don't have much of a cohesive discipline plan to address these issues and we're not looking at coming up with one anytime in the immediate future.
Isla is really funny with Isaac. She told him that she created a "quiet cry" for him to use. Unfortunately he hasn't started using it yet. ;-) She is also good at letting us know her needs. She asked me to be a doctor and help her take care of her sick girls (dolls) when I was holding Isaac. I said ok, and she told me that doctors who want to help take care of sick girls can't be holding babies.
Today she asked when Isaac was going back to the hospital and didn't seem thrilled with the answer. She also got a great book - "How to Be a Baby" from my parents neighbors, all about a big sister's perspective of what it is like to be a baby brother. It is fantastic and she really relates to it and was reading it tonight when Andrew checked on her.
I'm still having loads of guilt balancing my time between them both. Andrew goes back to work tomorrow, so I imagine things will not improve immediately, but hopefully they will soon.
